A man who was driving a U.S. Postal Service van when he fatally struck a pedestrian last year has been charged with criminally negligent homicide, Montgomery County Police said Friday.

Oscar Pedrozo, 26, of Silver Spring, turned himself into police on Wednesday and was released on bond, police said.

Pedrozo was driving the postal van about 10:40 a.m. on July 26 near Connecticut Avenue and Plyers Mill Road in Kensington, when he struck 64-year-old Mairi Nicola Morrison, who later died at a hospital.

Pedrozo, listening to music over earbuds, collided with Morrison as he was driving out of a gas station. He was preparing to turn north on Connecticut Avenue as she entered the driveway apron.

“Detectives also determined that after the initial impact, the van continued moving forward and then reversed while Morrison was still underneath the vehicle,” police said.

Pedrozo’s attorney was not immediately reached for comment on Friday morning.
