A 26-year-old man accused of fleeing a fatal hit-and-run in Gaithersburg was arrested Thursday while attempting to board a flight to Honduras, Montgomery County Police said Friday.

Josue David Carranza Castellon, of no fixed address, was prevented from boarding a plane at the Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.

Carranza Castellon was driving a Honda CR-V shortly before 5 a.m. on Wednesday and struck and killed 56-year-old Brian Roy Longaberger, police said.

Longaberger, whose address was unknown, was in a grassy median when the SUV left the roadway and struck him, police said.

Gaithersburg police found the SUV Carranza Castellon was driving, with front-end damage, about 6 ½ hours after the deadly incident.

An arrest warrant for Carranza Castellon charges him with manslaughter by vehicle and failure to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in death, police said.

He is jailed in Elizabeth, New Jersey, awaiting extradition to Montgomery County. It was unclear Friday afternoon if Carranza Castellon had retained an attorney.
