The Maryland attorney general’s office will not bring charges against the Baltimore Police officers involved in the fatal shooting of an Anne Arundel County man after an 18-minute car chase.

Police bodycam and helicopter footage from the early morning of July 5 shows Maurice Daniels, 42, eventually stopping his car after a chase in which he was tracked by Baltimore Police’s Foxtrot helicopter.

Eight Baltimore Police officers swarmed Daniels’ car, which was connected to an earlier armed carjacking, where he had locked himself inside. Officer Antonio Groomes commanded Daniels to show his hands, which he initially did, but as another officer went to shatter his window, Daniels reached his right hand toward his waist.

“Gun, gun, gun,” Groomes yelled, prompting six officers to release 70 rounds, killing Daniels. The gun recovered from the incident was a black BB pistol, police said.

The Attorney General’s Independent Investigation’s Division concluded its investigation on Sept. 24 finding that the officers involved “did not commit a crime under Maryland law.”
