An Annapolis man who owns a Stevensville cheer and tumbling gym was charged this week after allegedly sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl at the facility, state officials said.
Maryland State Police arrested Dustin Moss Burket, 52, on Wednesday after initiating an investigation into his actions last month.
State investigators allege Burket sexually abused a 9-year-old girl last summer and this spring at Eastern Shore Cheer Academy, the cheerleading and tumbling gym he owns.
Online court records show Burket faces second-degree rape and assault, third-degree child sex offense, fourth-degree sex offense and child sex abuse charges.
He is being held without bond after a bail review hearing on Thursday. Burket did not have an attorney listed online.
State business records show the academy was formed and registered in October 2024. Eastern Shore Cheer Academy is not in good standing, or out of compliance with state business laws, records show. This was due to a missing annual report, which companies are required to file yearly to remain in good standing.
