A Gaithersburg man died on Monday after crashing his vehicle into a tree in Derwood on Sunday, Montgomery County Police said.

The driver was identified as 52-year-old Sukhbir Singh, police said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred about 1:41 p.m. near Crabbs Branch Way and Moccasin Lane.

Singh drove a Toyota Avalon headed southbound on Crabbs Branch Way when the car left the roadway — it’s not known why — and struck a tree, police said.

The Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
