A man died on Monday after crashing his vehicle into a tree in Derwood on Sunday, Montgomery County Police said.

The identity of the deceased man was not immediately released.

The incident occurred about 1:41 p.m. near Crabbs Branch Way and Moccasin Lane.

The driver was headed southbound on Crabbs Branch Way when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, police said. It was unknown why the driver veered off the road.

The Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating. The name of the driver is expected to be released after his family is notified.
