A Montgomery County jury convicted a man of a 2024 execution-style murder in which the victim’s naked body was dumped in the woods in Gaithersburg.

Quinnton Eric Brown, 39, was found guilty Wednesday in Circuit Court of first-degree murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed carjacking, conspiracy to commit armed carjacking and other charges, according to a Thursday statement from the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 1. Brown faces the possibility of life in prison without parole, plus an additional 135 years.

Brown, who had no known address, is accused of shooting 35-year-old Delondre Sawyer in the back of the head on Feb. 7, 2024. Sawyer was killed while sitting in the driver’s seat of a Honda Accord. His body was left in the woods on Game Preserve Road.

“The victim was stripped naked, dragged into the wooded area, and left there,” prosecutors said.

Three other people were in the car when Brown, seated behind the passenger’s seat, shot Sawyer, who was driving.

A county jury convicted codefendant DeAngelo McRoy of first-degree murder in October. Another defendant in the case pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to first-degree murder

Police found Sawyer with the Accord in Germantown after it was captured on surveillance footage from a Gaithersburg gas station.

The defendants also stole items from Sawyer, including a backpack and credit cards, prosecutors said.

An attorney listed for Brown in court records was not immediately reached for comment Thursday afternoon.

Sawyer’s obituary said he was the father of two daughters. He was born in Silver Spring and educated in Montgomery County Public Schools.

He was described as a religious man whose “infectious smile and boundless energy lit up every room he entered.”
