Police Thursday identified the 6-year-old boy who died earlier this week after shooting himself in the face as Lascelle Lee IV.

Officers were dispatched at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday to the 10100 block of Maple Leaf Drive in Montgomery Village.

“First responders entered the townhome and located a 6-year-old boy with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face,” police said Tuesday in a news release that called the shooting “accidental.”

Officers and fire and rescue personnel provided aid, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

There was an adult inside the home at the time of the shooting. The handgun the child shot himself with was legally registered, according to a preliminary investigation.

No foul play is suspected.
