Montgomery County Police identified and charged a suspect with first-degree assault in connection with Wednesday’s shooting at Silver Spring’s James Hubert Blake High School.
Police identified Djibia Gombo, 19, of Silver Spring, on Thursday.
Detectives continue to investigate the incident, and police said more charges in connection with the shooting and the altercation that led to it are pending.
After a fight in the school’s parking lot, a 17-year-old male student showed up with a gunshot wound at a local hospital. In a letter to “Blake Families” on Wednesday, school officials said the student is in stable condition.
The school opened on a three-hour delay on Thursday, and students are no longer permitted to take lunch off campus or allowed to use delivery services, such as Uber Eats, to bring food to school, according to the letter.
Gombo is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and awaiting a bond hearing.
