Montgomery County Police on Friday identified a Germantown man who allegedly shot at an officer in Montgomery Village this week and was wounded when the officer returned fire.
Andre Duvall, 27, is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first- and second-degree assault, and multiple gun violations, police said.
The incident occurred about 4:51 p.m. on Tuesday as officers were patrolling Contour Road in Montgomery Village Plaza because of “community complaints of criminal activity.”
When Duvall saw a marked police vehicle, he crossed Contour Road. When officers attempted to stop him, he ran to a nearby apartment complex.
An officer who identified himself as county police gave Duvall commands to stop during the chase. When the officer turned a corner, Duvall fired multiple times at him, police said.
The officer took cover, reported shots fired, and fired back at Duvall, striking him.
The officer who fired his weapon will be placed on administrative leave, said police, who have not identified the officer.
Duvall’s handgun was recovered at the scene.
Officers administered first aid to Duvall until Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel arrived. Duvall was hospitalized in stable condition, released on Tuesday and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
He is being held without bond.
Body-worn video of the incident is expected to be released next week.
It was unclear on Friday afternoon if Duvall had retained an attorney.
