A 15-year-old student has been charged with assault and possession of a dangerous weapon related to an incident Thursday at Colonel Zadok Magruder High School in Rockville, Montgomery County Police said.

The campus was temporarily placed on “hold” — hallways cleared but activity in classrooms continuing — police said in social media posts.

Police and deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to the campus about 8:47 a.m., police said in a statement.

While school security was investigating an incident involving a student with a gun, they discovered a student with a knife. The knife was confiscated, and any disciplinary action will be handled by the schools, police said.

Police said the other student, a 15-year-old male who was believed to be in possession of a weapon, was found with a BB gun. During the investigation, he assaulted an administrator and school security, police said. Police did not specify how many security officers were involved.

The student was charged with first-and-second-degree assault, possession of a dangerous weapon on school property and disruption of a school day, police said.

The Department of Juvenile Services ordered that student’s detention.

In 2022, an 18-year-old student from the high school was sentenced to 18 years in prison after shooting another student earlier that year.
