The first day of the Oceans Calling music festival on Friday has been cancelled due to rough weather hitting Ocean City as a nor’easter churns along the East Coast.
Despite efforts from organizers and city officials, “this week’s continued weather, including beach erosion that affected the festival site, have made it impossible to safely complete the build in time for Friday,” the festival said in an update Thursday.
The show remains on for Saturday and Sunday, but the festival recommended tracking its social media for continued updates.
The concert series is a major event and economic boost for the beach town as it brings a slew of heavy-hitting musical artists and revenue to the boardwalk each year. Performers expected to take the stage on Saturday and Sunday include Gwen Stefani, the Goo Goo Dolls, Twenty One Pilots, Mumford & Sons and many more. Tickets are sold out.
Dave Matthews Band, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Ludacris were among the artists set to headline Friday’s show.
Festival organizers said Thursday that people who purchased single-day Friday tickets through Front Gate Tickets will get an automatic refund. People with weekend passes will get 33% of their purchase refunded.
In a Facebook post Wednesday, the team behind the festival said it was “working around the clock” to ensure the venue was ready and safe for guests’ arrival.
Although forecasters anticipate the storm will have minimal impact on Central Maryland, parts of the shore and Ocean City remain under a coastal flood advisory.
