Brandon Chasen’s development company is dialing back its national expansion plans and slowing its pace in Baltimore, too.

Kanisha Spence, 45, of Poppleton, who was employed as a security guard with Maximum Protective Services, was previously found guilty in Baltimore Circuit Court of second-degree murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence and sentenced to serve 60 years in prison in the deadly shooting of Marquise Powell on Oct. 30, 2022.

The Maryland Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear an appeal of a reckless endangerment conviction by a former Baltimore Police officer. A judge found Christopher Nguyen had failed to prevent a suspect in an assault from attacking a man lying on the ground.

Jewel Crowder, 41, of Baltimore, testified in Baltimore Circuit Court that he acted in defense of another person when he shot and killed Ryan Demby on South Charles Street near East Cross Street in Federal Hill on Sept. 29, 2023. He was 23.

Troy Spencer, 49, of Allendale in Southwest Baltimore, pleaded guilty on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore to possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person and possession of a firearm in a school zone.

Jewel Crowder, 41, of Baltimore, is charged in Baltimore Circuit Court with first-degree murder, use of a handgun during the commission of a crime of violence and reckless endangerment in the deadly shooting of Ryan Demby, which happened on South Charles Street near East Cross Street in Federal Hill on Sept. 29, 2023.

Latrell Sanders, 29, of Windsor Mill, pleaded guilty on Friday in Baltimore Circuit Court to involuntary vehicular manslaughter in exchange for a sentence of 15 years in prison, with seven years suspended, plus five years’ probation, in the death of Robert Horne Jr. on Aug. 13, 2023.

Joseph Black, 38, of Rosedale, was acquitted in Baltimore Circuit Court of first-degree assault and illegal possession of regulated firearm.

Gianni Tumminello, 49, of Nottingham, pleaded guilty on Thursday in Baltimore County Circuit Court to theft for stealing between $25,000 and $100,000 while he worked as the general manager for the Baltimore Blast.

In a statement, Baltimore State’s Attorney Ivan Bates said the sentence “conveys an unequivocal message that acts of violence, which have afflicted our communities, will not be tolerated.”

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Michelle M. Harner set the claims deadline, which came 245 days after the Archdiocese of Baltimore filed a petition for Chapter 11 reorganization.

For almost seven years, Willie Billinger, now 47, of Baltimore, pursued, and eventually won, his freedom. The Baltimore State’s Attorney’s Office, though, emphasized that it did not drop the charges against him because prosecutors believed that he was innocent of the killings of Earline “Smiley” Thomas and Howard “Mike” Martin.

Chris Bendann, 39, of Baltimore, worked at the independent, private all-boys school in Roland Park in Baltimore from 2007-2023. He has maintained his innocence.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore filed for bankruptcy right before a new law, the Child Victims Act of 2023, was set to take effect in Maryland.

“Luckily,” Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley told reporters, “his protective vest saved his life.”
