Questionnaire
A: I support cost containment measures that do not directly hurt our constituents, our business community, or our environment. That said, there are always inefficiencies in a system as large as ours and I believe that the administration could do more to identify and address those. We should only fund programs that are actually providing return on investment in a way that is science-based and measurable for short- or long-term goals. I support audits of our departments and retirement of programs that are obsolete or ineffective. I also strongly support interventional “up-stream” investment which has proven to be much more effective than constantly putting out fires (for instance, funding early childhood support has a much higher fiscal and societal rate of return than funding prison rehabilitation). I do not support raising income or property taxes on Marylanders any higher.
A: Challenges from the federal administration are directly impacting the jobs, environment, and well-being of Marylanders.
Increasing energy costs and usage, including the expected proliferation of data centers throughout our region. Political polarization of the media is making it more difficult for citizens to listen to, understand, and work with each other. I am proud to have worked very hard to improve all three of these problems during this legislative session as vice chair of the Environment and Transportation Committee that passed the utility RELIEF Act, and as a representative of a “purple” district who always tries to bring people together.
A: In my current position, I have the ability to actively address rising energy costs. I will continue the significant work that we started this year to ensure that Marylanders have the energy we need and can afford it.
A: I am a believer in the tenets of the blueprint but do not think that we will need to raise new revenue to pay for it. The plan should be constantly evaluated to make necessary changes in efficacy and efficiency. As previously mentioned, I believe that there are other ways to redirect funds within our current budget that will not require new revenue but will keep our educational plan moving forward.
A: I believe that my constituents measure my performance by how quickly and thoroughly I respond to their needs and how often I connect with them at their doors and community events to listen to their ideas and concerns. Many of my bills have been directly based on community or individual constituent concerns over the past several years, as well. I want to be known for listening and being a true public servant. I cannot always solve a problem, but I will always try. My office has spent significant time and effort to produce a remarkable resource guide for our area that is constantly updated and are always there for people who reach out. I believe that my constituents know that I am working hard for them and that I truly care about them and their families. Every time someone reaches out to say that I helped make their lives a little easier, I am reminded why I do this work. We are all in this together!
