Democratic
Name: Tazeen Ahmad

Age: 63
Personal: Potomac has been my home for more than 40 years. It is where my husband and I raised our two children, both graduates of Montgomery County Public Schools, and where we cared for his parents in a multigenerational household for many years.
I was born in India and immigrated to the United States at age 13 with my parents and two brothers. By that time, I had lived in three countries on three continents, giving me a unique perspective on different cultures, communities, and ways of life. My experience as an immigrant has shaped my appreciation for the opportunities this country provides and deepened my commitment to ensuring that every family has the chance to succeed and thrive. I have been a lifelong advocate of issues of importance to Maryland families, and over the years has worked in leadership positions with many nonprofit organizations and County boards and commissions.
Education: Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in English, Alfred University; Master of Journalism, Philip Merrill College of Journalism, University of Maryland.
Experience: I currently serve as Chief Financial Officer at a bipartisan government relations firm, where I oversee budgeting, human resources, compliance, and organizational management. Earlier in my career, I helped manage my family’s small business, which provides fully furnished, fully staffed office space and virtual services to small businesses and continues to operate today. Together, these experiences represent more than 25 years of professional work in business and financial management and have given me firsthand insight into the challenges facing small business owners and working families.
My public service and community leadership have focused on expanding opportunities for women and families, addressing food insecurity, strengthening local communities and supporting small businesses. I currently serve on the Maryland Commission for Women, the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board, and the Board of Directors of Interfaith Works. I also served as President of the Montgomery County Women’s Democratic Club, one of Maryland’s largest Democratic organizations, where I led advocacy efforts on issues including expanded voting rights, special elections to fill vacancies, affordable childcare, and universal school meals. In 2024, I co-founded the Maryland Equal Rights Action Network (MERAN) to successfully synchronize advocacy across the state to pass a resolution in the General Assembly to support the federal Equal Rights Amendment. Governor Moore signed the resolution that year.
In 2019, my daughter and I co-founded the Up 2 Us Foundation to address food insecurity in our region. As Executive Director, I helped grow the organization into a regional effort serving families across Maryland and Washington, D.C. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we distributed more than one million pounds of food through partnerships with nonprofits, faith communities, schools, and government agencies. In November 2020, we opened a food pantry in Wheaton, Maryland, which served approximately 250–300 families each week for several years.
My previous public service includes serving on the Montgomery County Commission for Women, chairing the Montgomery County Victim Services Advisory Board, and helping launch Court Watch Montgomery, an organization dedicated to improving accountability in domestic violence cases. Throughout my career, I have combined professional leadership with a commitment to public service, advocacy, and community engagement.
